Please include the app version — it’s shown in the settings under General — and your macOS version. For connection problems it helps to know what kind of server it is (Mac, Windows, NAS and which one) and which message Lagath Link shows.

The help

Lagath Link comes with a complete manual, searchable and available without internet: in Lagath Link’s menu in the menu bar under Lagath Link Help.

Frequently asked questions

My Windows PC doesn’t appear under “Servers on the Network”.

Windows announces its shares differently from Macs and NAS devices. Enter the address by hand, as a computer name such as OFFICE-PC or as an IP address.

“Login failed” — although the password is right.

Check the user name: on a Mac it’s the account name on that Mac; on Windows it’s often the Microsoft account. After a rejected login, Lagath Link stops retrying every minute so the server doesn’t lock the account — until you change the user name or password or choose Connect.

“Server not reachable” although the computer is running.

If the server is on another network, over VPN for example, use its IP address instead of its name. File sharing must be turned on on the server.

I ejected a share — and now it’s back.

That’s by design: Lagath Link keeps shares that are switched on connected. To keep a share disconnected, switch it off in the settings. Disconnect in the menu disconnects everything until the next Connect.

Where does Lagath Link store my passwords?

In your Mac’s keychain, never in a file. In Keychain Access they appear under “Local Items” as application passwords named “Lagath Link: ” followed by the server name. With iCloud Keychain turned on, this section is called “iCloud”; the passwords still stay on the Mac.

Which servers does Lagath Link support?

Any that offer shares over SMB: Macs, Windows PCs and almost every NAS. Lagath Link doesn’t support AFP, NFS or WebDAV.

Where can I get the app?

It’s coming to the Mac App Store. Until then, it’s in testing.

Reporting a problem

If something isn’t right, write to me. Helpful: what you did, what you expected and what happened instead. A screenshot often says more than a description — but please never send passwords.
